Junior athletes are also expecting to receive gift vouchers that can reach up to $760,000
The Jamaican government has rewarded their Paralympic and Olympic athletes with a grant worth $45m. These athletes are being honored for delivering good performances in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This statement was made when Olivia Grange; the Sports Minister, was speaking to journalists at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
“I can confirm that 66 athletes and 21 support personnel will benefit from the funds,” she said. Those who benefit will also include one Paralympian. The Jamaican delegation can use this money to fund future endeavors.
According to Grange, the athletes have already received money from the the Athletes Assistance Programme. This initiative provided the athletes with more than $20 million. These funds were meant to ensure that athletes had everything they needed ahead of the Paris Games.
Junior athletes are also expecting to receive gift vouchers that can reach up to $760,000. This money is expected to come from the ministry. These athletes participated at the World Athletics U20 Championships. This competition was held in Lima, Peru.
Grange was speaking while launching the Jamaica leg of GrandSlam Track, an athletics league that is led by Michael Johnson; a retired Olympic champion. The four-time U.S. Olympic champion said that Kingston will host the inaugural 2025 season.
