Powell has Previously Led the Jamaica Tallawahs
Powell, Rovman, the all-around Jamaican, is expected to be named vice-captain of the West Indies T-20 side, this is according to a statement made to journalists. Shai Hope was selected as the deputy for the 50-over format and would work under Nicholas Pooran.
However, there was no appointment for the vice-captaincy position in the Twenty20 National teams.
Powell has previously led the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League and captained the West Indies in December 2018 on the three One Day Internationals tour to Bangladesh.
Jimmy Adams, CWI’s Director of Cricket, stated in a recent online media conference that because there is no upcoming series, they chose not to announce the player, but will do so before the start of the next series.
With three T20 matches on the itinerary, Bangladesh is scheduled to visit the Caribbean in June and July.
However, the West Indies are to play in Pakistan and the Netherlands as members of the ICC Super League on the 50-over trips if they are to qualify and participate in the World Cup which will be held in India, next year.
Powell is expected to travel to both nations with the Windies. In addition, the two-time T20 champs, the Windies will have to face the likes of Namibia and Scotland if they are to make it for the men’s T20 Super 12s World Cup in Australia later this year.
