Queen’s/Grace Jackson Track Meet to Honor Olympic Medalists Ricketts, Stona

They will be honored on Saturday, inside the National Stadium. The meet starts at 8:30 am and will run until 7:30 pm Jamaica time

Shanieka Ricketts and Roje Stona; who are Jamaican Olympic medalists, will be celebrated during the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Track Meet. This event is scheduled for Saturday. It will be hosted by the National Stadium.

Stona will be celebrated because of his historic performance at the Paris Olympics. He became the first Jamaican to win a gold medal in a throwing event. He secured a record of 70.00m in the discus throw contest.

On the other hand, Ricketts won a silver medal in the triple jump event. This result made him the first Jamaican triple jumper to secure an Olympic medal.

In 2024, Ricketts and Stona were declared as the nation’s National Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year. The two athletes boast of records in the triple jump and discus events at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet.

The event will also recognize Jascinth Royal who has built a reputation as a distinguished Queen’s alumni. The athlete has participated in numerous events in The Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet.

The 2025 edition of this event will feature more than 1,800 athletes. Enthusiasts should expect an unforgettable display of athletic talent.

The meet will feature some of the top-performing schools in the country. Some of the institutions include: St. Jago High School, The Queen’s School, Calabar, Immaculate Conception, Wolmer’s and   Kingston College.

The best track clubs will also send some of their senior athletes. Some the clubs include Swept Track Club, Sprint Tech, Racers and MVP.

Ashanti Moore, Tyquendo Tracey, Shericka Jackson, Krystal Sloley and Zharnel Hughes are some of the notable competitors.

The senior and junior athletes will participate in a wide range of events. They include 4x400m relays, Shot Put, High Jump, Discus, Triple Jump, Long Jump, 800m, 400m and 200m races. There will also be a 60m race that will feature senior athletes.

The meet starts at 8:30 am and will run until 7:30 pm Jamaica time.
