He is recovering from an injury that was picked up from a car crash
Michail Antonio is in advanced stages of his rehabilitation process. He has posted pictures in which he is seen doing intense weight-lifting workouts. He is recovering from a foot injury that was picked from a car accident that happened in December.
The Reggae Boy striker was released from hospital on December 31. According to reports, the recovery process is happening in the United Arab Emirates.
The 34-year-old was subjected to a major surgery after the horrific accident. Antonio was trapped in his car after the accident. He received medical help after spending one hour in the damaged car. The accident happened on December 7 last year, in Essex, England. He told reporters that he was grateful that God had decided to spare his life.
Antonio’s doctors chose the United Arab Emirates because they believe that the nation’s warm weather will be helpful for his recovery.
The 12-day programme is meant to help him return to playing football.
According to West Ham; which is Antonio’s club, the forward will not play any role in the current season. He is projected to miss a portion of the upcoming English premier league season.
This revelation means that the Jamaican international will miss several games for his country. He will miss the Concacaf Gold Cup as well as the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The speedster has recorded five goals in 21 caps for his nation. His last outing for the Reggae Boyz came in October when the Jamaicans were held to a 0-0 draw by Honduras. This match happened in the Concacaf Nations League.
Antonio delivered a message to all his supporters through his social media account. He said that he is working hard so that he can return ‘as soon possible.’ He thanked the fans for sending him positives messages since the crash.
“This incident has opened my eyes about the fragility of life. I would like to thank God for giving me a second chance. We should value every moment we’re alive. Thank you to my fans, the football community and my club,” he said.
Michael Ricketts; the Jamaica Football Federation President, and Reggae Boyz Head Coach Steve McClaren both sent positive messages to the West Ham striker.
Graham Potter; the manager of West Ham, revealed that he had also paid tribute to Antonio. He has been in constant communication with the striker.
