English League One club Burton Albion has secured the services of Reggae Boy Adrian Mariappa. According to Manager Dino Maamria, the team has been struggling and the Jamaican defender is ”exactly what they need.” The 36-year-old made his debut in a 1-1 draw against Peterborough United. He played the full 90 minutes.
Burton now has eight points after 13 games and they sit second from bottom. On the other hand, Peterborough is sitted in seventh position on the table. Jamaica’s Jonson Clarke-Harris scored Peterborough’s goal —his ninth of the campaign.
Mariappa has spent majority of his playing career in the Premeir League and this was debut game in the third tier league.
Maamria said that they chose Mariappa because of his presence, organizational skills and his voice in the team. he brings in leadership and technical skills that have been lacking in the team.
Over the years, Mariappa has represented Premier League clubs like Reading, Crystal Palace and Watford. This is his second spell in English football after playing for an Australian club known as Macarthur.
Mariappa is the fourth free agent after forwards like Bobby Kamwa, Mustapha Carayol and Sam Winnall.
