Reggae Boyz Defeat The Soca Warriors

McCalla; who has competed four times against T&T, scored an 84th minute goal that confused substitute goal keeper Aaron Enill

St James, Jamaica – The Reggae Boyz have secured a win over Trinidad and Tobago in their latest encounter. Jamaica secured the 1-0 win after grabbing a late second half scored first goal.

This is the first of two friendly games between the two teams. The match was played in the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

McCalla; who has competed four times against T&T, scored an 84th minute goal that confused substitute goal keeper Aaron Enill. The opportunity was created when Shaniel Thomas delivered a defense-splitting pass.

This win means that the Jamaican men’s senior team have maintained their 5-game winning streak against the Soca Warriors. This is the first time that they have beaten T&T in a home game since 2014.

The Jamaican players created most of the goal-scoring opportunities. Warner Brown; who is the top scorer of the Jamaica Premier League, registered two ‘’shots-on-target’’ in the first half. However, he couldn’t open his account although he pushed the goalkeeper to his limit. Brown was one of the many players who were making their debut for the Reggae Boyz. He was included in Steve McClaren’s starting eleven.

The Soca Warriors also had some good opportunities in the final minutes of the first half. However, their attackers failed to convert their chances. They also created some chances in the early stages of the second half. Brent Sam missed an easy chance from close range. This chance was created through a cross that was swung from the left wing.

The Reggae Boyz came close to scoring the first goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, the Jamaican attackers misplaced their shots. The opportunity was created through a cross from Kyle Ming. Eventually, McCalla took advantage of a pass that was flicked by Thomas. It was this goal that gave the Jamaicans a deserved win.
