Shaw remains the Women’s Super-League’s top scorer despite not playing for close to two months
Khadija Shaw is expected to make an ‘imminent’ return from injury. The Reggae Girl captain missed Manchester City’s last game in the weekend. The Citizens faced off against bitter rivals Manchester United.
The Jamaican international picked up an injury that has kept her out since early December.
The Citizens have been feeling the impact of Shaw’s absence because she is the main source of their goals. It therefore wasn’t surprising that they lost 4-2 against Manchester United.
City have also been playing without other key players like creative attacker Lauren Hemp and captain Alex Greenwood.
Shaw remains the Women’s Super-League’s top scorer despite not playing for close to two months. She currently has nine goals.
According to manager Gareth Taylor: “Shaw is likely to be the first one to return into the team. The doctors are almost done with her rehabilitation. We are hoping she will participate in the upcoming part of the season. We will need her for this busy period.’’
‘’Hemp and Greenwood will require a little longer. However, I can confirm that they are in a good place.’’
Taylor also told journalists about Manchester City’s recruitment plans. The club has been active in the January transfer window. There are only two weeks remaining in the window.
According to reports, the club has handed a three-year-contract to Brazil forward Kerolin. On the other hand, England international Chloe Kelly and defender Alanna Kennedy are among the players who might be on the way out.
“The market is really difficult because we have to find the right opportunities. We hope to improve the squad and that’s why we’re working hard behind the scenes,” said Taylor.
“We’ll let you know once it’s finalised.”
Shaw had formed a formidable relationship with Chloe Kelly. It’s therefore unfortunate that the England international might leave the club. The forward has grown frustrated with the lack of playing time. She is hoping to find a club that will give her more minutes. This is because she doesn’t want to get dropped from the England national team.
Shaw will be hoping to continue with her goal-scoring streak when she returns.
