The defender said that she is excited to test herself against some the best teams in the world
Chantelle Swaby has said that she is ready to conquer the English Women’s Super League. The Reggae Girl was recently signed by Leicester City in a deal that will see her represent the club for the next two years.
The defender said that she is excited to test herself against some the best teams in the world. She is arriving after spending the last two years in FC Fluery 91; a French team plays in the first division.
She said that she was glad to achieve her life-long dream of playing in the WSL. I believe this is the best league and I can’t wait to show what I’m made of,” said Swaby.
Swaby has played 38 times for the Jamaican national team. Her biggest games have been in the 2019 and 2023 Women’s World Cup tournaments.
She also had a one-year stint as a Rangers player. She secured a Scottish Women’s Premier League title during this period of her career. She told journalists that she had learnt how to be a ”proper professional” during this time.
“This is where I got my feet into the water because it was my first contract as a professional in Europe,” Swaby said. She described it as a great experience because she competed against high-level competitors.
Swaby said she wants to have a big impact in the Leicester City squad. She wants to help her team finish in a respectable position. She is coming in as the third signing of the season in a Leicester team that has seen many changes.
The club has also signed Amandine Miquel as the new manager. Miquel is coming from coaching Stade de Reims in the Women’s French league.
Swaby said that the most important thing is to adapt to the speed and physicality of the English league. She described herself as a defender who loves to be a playmaker. She said that she likes to dribble and pass the ball to forwards and midfielders.
Swaby will now be one of the many Reggae Girlz players who compete in the English league. Some of the big names include Drew Spence, Rebecca Spencer and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw.
