The Jamaicans put up a good fight but the Australians were simply too strong for them
The Jamaican national team is enduring a terrible run of form having suffered three losses in a row. These terrible results have been recorded in the Cup of Nations. This friendly competition was hosted in Australia’s McDonald Jones Stadium.
The game ended in a 3-0 score-line in favor of Australia. Australia’s first goal came in the 28th minute when Katrina Gorry found the back of the net. The second goal arrived in the 56th minute when Alex Chidiac produced a moment of magic. Australia were not done with punishing the Girlz; Caitlin Foord put the nail in the coffin with a 69th goal.
During the first 20 minutes, the Reggae Girlz appeared to be more dangerous. The Girlz looked like they were more likely to score, especially through Atlanta Primus, Kayla McKenna and Jody Brown.
The ‘Matildas’ looked out of sorts and they were even struggling to come up with proper attacks in Jamaica’s box. Jamaica was growing into the game and it only seemed like a matter of time before the Girlz would find an opening goal. However, the Australians produced a moment of magic against the run of play. Jamaica’s goalie Rebecca Spencer was beaten by first-time effort that was placed beyond her reach.
Nevertheless, the Jamaicans didn’t give up and were unlucky to go into halftime trailing, after McKenna squandered her chance to equalize.
The Reggae Girlz began the second half brightly, with Daniesha Blackwood and Primus almost scoring within the first few minutes. However, the Jamaicans hopes of a comeback were squashed when Gorry smashed in a second goal for Australia. The third goal was only a confirmation of a terrible day in the office for Jamaica.
