The Jamaicans used this friendly as preparation for the upcoming Women’s World Cup
The Jamaican women’s team outclassed Sheffield United in a 2-0 friendly game. The game was held in Leicester City’s King Power Stadium. The Reggae Girlz secured the win after Cheyna Matthews and Chantelle Swaby scored some memorable goals in the the second half.
the game was full of many scrappy moments. The Girlz produced many beautiful build-up plays that didn’t lead to any clear scoring opportunities. The Jamaicans main weaknesses were poor final passes. Shaw saw one of her shot saved in the first half. She also squandered another opportunity that went wide.
Swaby’s goal came eight minutes into the second half after she converted a header that was created from a corner kick situation. Chantelle Swaby rose highest to deliver a devastating finish that left the United defenders confused.
The second goal came after Manchester City’s Shaw dribbled past Sheffield’s onrushing goalkeeper. Shaw proceeded to cut back a simple pass that that found an unmarked Matthews who directed the ball into an empty net.
The Reggae Girlz are one of the teams that will be competing in the upcoming Womens’ World Cup. The Jamaicans used this friendly as preparation for the prestigious tournament that will be hosted in Australia. Jamaica is in the same group as Brazil, Panama and France. The tournament will happen in the summer.
