Jkwon Kenton of Reggae Youths was recognized as the best goalkeeper in the competition
Reggae Youths made Jamaica proud by winning the Guardian Group/St James Football Association Under-20 competition. They secured this championship by beating Granville United. The two teams clashed in an entertaining final that was played at WesPow Park, the game ended with a score-line 3-1.
The Reggae Youths went on a 10-minute scoring spree in which they scored all their goals. All their goals came in the first half. Oneil Rowe scored two of the goals while the third one was scored by Nathaniel Wilson. Rowe was rewarded for this performance by being crowned as the game’s MVP.
Granville United got their consolation goal when Ajani Clarke scored in the second half.
The third place was clinched by Maldon after beating Cambridge United in a tight contest that ended in penalties. The two teams couldn’t be separated in a game that ended as a 2-2 draw. This was an impressive win by Maldon because Cambridge United are the outgoing champions of this competition.
Cambridge United forced their way back into the game after conceding two goals in the first half. Javaughn Anglin put Maldon ahead with a 20th minute goal before Alikay McFarlane doubled the lead in the 29th minute.
Cambridge United responded with a 40th-minute goal from Jamar Stevens. The comeback was completed when Tahj-Wayne Robinson struck in the 70th minute. Maldon went on to win the spot kicks with a score-line of 5-3.
The top scorer’s award went to Irwin High’s Nicardo Tomlinson who registered eight goals in this competition.
Jkwon Kenton of Reggae Youths was recognized as the best goalkeeper in the competition. The award for the Most Disciplined Team was clinched by Green Pond High.
