Although Richardson is the favorite, she will face stiff competition from Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and St Lucia’s star Julien Alfred
Shericka Jackson will not compete in the 100m race in the ongoing Olympic Games. The Jamaican has withdrawn in favor of one of her teammates. This withdrawal means that Sha’Carri Richardson is the outright favorite to win this race.
Ludlow Watts; Jamaica’s team manager, revealed that Jackson would be replaced by Sashalee Forbes.
Jackson has been suffering with fitness problems since July 9 during the Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Hungary. She was seen limping off and she even ended up with a taped knee.
Troy Evans; Jackson’s physiotherapist, said that she had suffered from cramp in her hamstring. She insisted that Jamaicans shouldn’t be worried about this injury scare.
Sprinting fans wanted to see a spectacular clash between Jackson and her American rival.
Jackson would have required a spectacular performance to beat Richardson. This is because Richardson is4 the woman to beat in 2024. The American came into the Olympic games with a world-leading time of 10.71s.
On the other hand, Jackson came in as her nation’s fastest 100m sprinter in the current year. She was the best sprinter during the Jamaica Olympic Trials with a time of 10.84s. She would have had to lower this time in order to win in the Olympics. Richardson emerged as the winner when these two athletes met in their last contest. They were competing in the 2023 World Championships in Budapest.
Although Richardson is the favorite, she will face stiff competition from Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and St Lucia’s star Julien Alfred. Both of them will be hoping to pull a major upset.
