This coaching initiative will happen under a Jamaica-Japan programme that is referred to as the Sports Exchange Advisor (SEA) programme
Kaliese Spencer-Carter will be one of the Jamaican candidates that will be considered for a coaching job in Japan. The Olympian is part of a six-member shortlist. This coaching initiative will happen under a Jamaica-Japan programme that is referred to as the Sports Exchange Advisor (SEA) programme.
This information was released through the office of Yasuhiro Atsumi; the ambassador of Japan to Jamaica. He was speaking at the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation (WMC).
Spencer-Carter and the other Jamaicans will become pioneers in the SEA programme if they make the final cut. SEA has been included in the latest version of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) programme.
“Kaliese Spencer-Carter is one of the six candidates who will vie for the Sports Exchange Advisor (SEA) programme. This initiative will run within the JET programme. Spencer-Carter will be the representative of the Westmoreland. We are happy to be associated with a 400m hurdle specialist,” Ambassador Atsumi said.
The Japanese government started the JET programme in order to enhance foreign language education and promote international exchange. The authorities are also hoping to strengthen ties between the two nations. The initiative recruits Jamaicans primarily as assistant language teachers.
“The SEA participants are expected to work as athletic coaches,” Atsumi added. The Japanese authorities believe that they will gain a lot of knowledge from their Jamaican counterparts. Jamaica has built a reputation of being a leader in track and field competitions.
Spencer-Carter is one of Jamaica’s finest talents when it comes to track and field. She dominated in the 400-metre hurdles. In 2012, she went home with a bronze medal that was acquired during the 2012 Olympic Games. She also boasts of a gold medal that was acquired during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
