Aerials Skiing

Aerials is a freestyle ski discipline sport in which athletes perform various tricks in the air. In aerials, athletes ski down a steep slope toward a take-off ramp. The launch ramp propels the athlete into the air. While in the air, they perform various movements like somersaults and spins. Today’s top athletes can perform three back flips and four or five spins. The landing area is a slope that has a slope between 34 and 39 degrees and 30 m in length. Skiers usually reach a height of 20 m in their jumps.

In sky skiing, competitors are judged based on their runs and given a score. Races are judged based on three factors, which are: take-off jump, jump form, and landing. Jump takeoff accounts for 30% of scores, jump form accounts for 50%, and landing accounts for 30%. The total is calculated also taking into account a degree of difficulty (DD).

Each skier jumps twice and his final score is based on the cumulative score of both jumps. The competitions are held in a round format, where athletes are eliminated until the final round of medals where the winner is decided.

Aerials is one of the main disciplines of freestyle skiing and is currently part of the Winter Olympics with medal events for men and women.
