World Indoor Championships
The World Indoor Athletics Championships are a biennial indoor athletics competition that serves as the world championship for that version of the sport. Organized by World Athletics, the competition was inaugurated as the World Indoor Games in 1985 in Paris, France and was later renamed the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1987. The current name was adapted with the sport’s governing body’s name change in 2019.
They have been held every two years except when they were held in the consecutive years 2003 and 2004 to facilitate the need for them to be held in alternate years to the major World Championships in Athletics (outdoors) in the future.
