The 27-year-old Jamaican striker has been scoring at the rate of a goal every 66 minutes
Olivia Grange, the minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, has praised Khadijah Shaw for being named as the WSL Player of the Season.
The Reggae Girlz striker has had a breakout season in which she has emerged as the best player in England. Shaw is the leading goal scorer in the Women’s Super League after recording 21 goals for Manchester City. These goals are impressive considering she only needed 18 goals to score them.
Grange said that Jamaicans should be proud that Shaw is creating a pathway for other footballers to follow.
Shaw’s goals were important in placing Manchester City in a title run. However, she missed the last few games of the season through injury. This injury allowed Chelsea to win the league title with the slimmest of margins. The two teams finished with 55 points but Chelsea won because they had a better goal difference.
Shaw has been recognized by many entities, including being declared as this year’s Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year. Manchester City also named her as their player of the season.
Grange described Shaw as a player who gives fans something to cheer about every time she touches the ball. She believes that Bunny Shaw is the type of player to lead the Jamaican women’s team to glory.
The 27-year-old striker has been scoring at the rate of a goal every 66 minutes. She will be hoping to replicate this form in the coming season.
Shaw recently had a surgery to fix her broken foot. She is currently going through a rehabilitation process in the club’s medical department. She was seen wearing a protective boot in a recent meeting with sprint superstar Usain Bolt.
Chelsea has been dominating the Women’s Super League for the last few years. This is their fifth title in a row. Manchester City has emerged as Chelsea’s closest competitors. However, it will take an enormous effort for City to win in the near future.
