Swimming
Swimming is the sport or activity of propelling yourself through water using your limbs. Competitive swimming is usually done in a 25m or 50m pool, using various stroke styles. Some other styles officially regulated by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) include freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke. These four strokes combine to form the combined events.
Long distance open water swimming events are also held in open water such as rivers and oceans. Swimming is also part of other sports, such as triathlon.
The main competitions for men and women are the long and short course world championships and also the Olympic Games. Swimming is one of the most renowned sports of the Summer Olympics.
