Tottenham Hotspurs toyed with the idea of signing Bailey during the January transfer window. The Jamaican star could be forced to depart if Aston Villa buys another winger
Tottenham is one of the clubs that is showing interest in signing Jamaican international Leon Bailey.
The Aston Villa winger established himself as an important player by registering 14 goals and 13 assists in the past season. However, he has failed to replicate similar performances in the current. This is despite being rewarded with a pay rise.
The arrival of Marco Asensio and Leon Bailey has seen him fallen down the pecking order. According to sources, Villa are thinking about cashing in on the Jamaican star.
The 27-year-old is also receiving interest from clubs like Manchester United, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, Marseille and RB Leipzig.
Tottenham Hotspurs toyed with the idea of signing Bailey during the January transfer window. He could be a good replacement for Timo Werner who is set to leave the London club.
However, Tottenham might be unwilling to match Bailey’s hefty £120,000-per-week salary. He might be forced to take a pay-cut if he wants to complete the move.
It’s important to note that Tottenham are putting their options open. They have also showed interest in Southampton starlet Tyler Dibling.
In 2021, Aston Villa paid £25 million to sign Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen. He was regarded as one of the best wingers in Germany. It’s therefore not surprising that he is receiving interest from many Bundesliga teams. Many coaches still believe that he is capable of delivering high-level performances in the German league.
Bailey’s summer exit
Coach Unai Emery has been unsatisfied with Bailey’s lack of goals in the current season. He has recorded just one goal and two assists despite making 23 appearances. However, this isn’t a knock on Bailey’s talent because the Premier League has a reputation of being the toughest league in the world.
The Jamaican star could be forced to depart if Aston Villa buys another winger. According to reports, Aston Villa are looking to sign Chelsea’s Noni Madueke in the next transfer window. Villa will be forced to compete against Newcastle and Tottenham if they want to sign the 23-year-old England international.
