The U20 Reggae Girlz defeated St Vincent and the Grenadines in a game that ended with a score-line of 7-0. The two teams are participating in the qualifiers of the Concacaf Women’s U20 Qualifiers. The match was played in Nicaragua’s National Football Stadium.
The Jamaicans were led by an inspired Alyssa Stephenson. She scored three goals that arrived in the 14th, 45th and 59th minute. The other goals were scored by Andrene Smith, Avery Johnson, Jaileah McPherson, Maya Raghunandanan and Andrene Smith.
Jamaica was the dominant team for majority of the game. They began the game with a bang and it wasn’t long before they got a chance to score. However, Una Lue failed to take her chance.
Lue rounded one defender, outmuscled another but she was stopped by Vincentian goalkeeper G-Riesa Joseph. The goalkeeper tipped the ball over the bar.
The young Reggae Girlz scored most of their goals in the first half. They only managed to squeeze in one more goal in the second half.
The Reggae Girlz are expected to face off against St Kitts and Nevis in a match that is scheduled for Saturday. They will proceed to the group stages where they will compete versus Nicaragua on Monday.
Jamaica will be hoping to win their group so that they can join Mexico and USA in the Concacaf Women’s U20 Championships. This competition will allow them to compete for a spot in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
