Under-17 Defender Remains Defiant Despite Guadeloupe Loss

Barrett insists that his team has the right mentality to recover from this loss and respond with a win against Costa Rica tomorrow

Ronaldo Barrett, one of the National under-17 defenders has said that he and his teammates remain defiant despite facing a 2-1 loss against Guadeloupe. This loss came the Under-17 Concacaf Championship during the second group game. The match was hosted at the Estadio Mateo Flores Stadium.
The U-17 Boyz got the lead when Ronaldo Barrett scored in the 41st minute. The Jamaican drove with the ball before delivering an unstoppable shot from outside the penalty area. However, this lead was snatched when Willian Jacques responded with a magnificent goal in the 77th minute. Guadeloupe got a second goal in the 89th minute when Ylan Moloza condemned the Boyz to a certain defeat.
A second-half red card to one of the Jamaican players definitely contributed to the Boyz poor performance. Nashorn Bolt-Barrett got a red card in the 52nd minute after getting a second yellow card.
The Boyz started the first half with purpose and they even hurt their opponents with an opening goal. They were looking to finish the job in the second half but their desire was quashed when they were reduced to 10 men. Barnett said that he was disappointed that his goal wasn’t enough to help his team win the match. He said that his teammates gave it their best shot, just like they did when they did in their 4-2 destruction of Cuba. Barnett believes that the red card was the main factor why they lost the game.
The U-17 Boyz will now need to secure a positive result in order to guarantee themselves a second round spot. Barnett revealed that they are hoping to use this tournament to grab a spot in the Under-17 World Cup. Barrett insists that his team has the right mentality to recover from this loss and respond with a win against Costa Rica tomorrow.
Barnett said that this loss will not define them. He also revealed that he they are working hard on the training pitch.
