Captain Hayley Matthews delivered an incredible performance when he led the West Indies women’s team. She delivered an all-round performance when WI won by 9 wickets in their recent game against India.
The two teams were competing in the second T20 international. This win means that WI has levelled their three-match series at 1-1.
Matthews emerged as the top-scorer despite WI chasing 160 runs. She delivered 85 runs off 47 deliveries when West Indies reached 4 overs and 2 balls to spare.
The skipper had to endure chance-less innings but she still hammered 17 fours. Fellow opener Qiana Joseph put on 66 with Matthews but she was dismissed for 38 off 22 balls. Shemaine Campbell contributed 29 off 26 while batting at number 3.
India had perfomed better in an earlier encounter, they delivered a respectable 159-9 off their 20 overs. These numbers were possible because Smriti Mandhana captained her team while scoring 62.
Skipper Matthews, Afy Fletcher, Deandra Dottin, Chinelle Henry delivered two wickets each. The series’ third and final game will happen on Thursday morning at 8:30 Jamaica time.
