The 34-year-old claimed that Jamaicans have no interest in athletes who aren’t winning
Sprint superstar Yohan Blake is frustrated by the lack of support that he receives from his fellow Jamaicans. He said that Jamaicans haven’t shown him any compassion despite knowing that his terrible performance have been caused by injuries.
Blake has endured a challenging season in which he failed to make it into the Jamaican Olympic team. This is despite expressing a strong desire to compete in this year’s tournament.
Blake’s struggles were highlighted at the London Diamond League when he finished last. He clocked a time of 10.23 seconds while competing in the 100m race. The sprinter’s frustrations came to the fore in the post-race interview.
“My head is still messed up because I wanted to give a better performance at the Jamaica trials,” said the 2011 World 100m champion. He revealed that he was hoping to go out with a bang in what would have been his final Olympics. However, he promised to continue with his journey.
“I don’t receive respect from my country but my consolation is that I get love from elsewhere,” said Blake. “It’s this love that will keep me going until I’m ready to retire from the sport.”
The 34-year-old claimed that Jamaicans have no interest in athletes who aren’t winning. He claimed that most people who criticize athletes don’t know what is happening in their personal lives. He said that he has a support team that keeps him motivated.
He said that he has blocked off all the noise because he knows he still still has some ”juice” left in the tank. He believes that he can still achieve greatness although he has suffered with hamstring and back issues in the last few years.
Blake spent the best part of his career in the shadows of Usain Bolt. However, Blake has enjoyed a respectable career because he is still the second-fastest athlete of all time.
