Yorke Happy Secure to Gold Cup Qualification for Soca Warriors

This is Yorke’s first major achievement since he was appointed as the head coach of the Soca Warriors

Dwight Yorke has expressed delight that Trinidad and Tobago has earned its way into the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup. They secured their spot by defeating Cuba for the first time in 17 years. This is Yorke’s first major achievement since he was appointed as the head coach of the Soca Warriors.

Isaiah Lee scored two goals that helped Trinidad and Tobago secure a 4-0 win over Cuba. The other goals were scored by Nathaniel James and Kevin Molino. They came into the game with a 2-1 advantage that was secured in their first encounter.

“The people of Trinidad and Tobago have a good reason to celebrate. It’s been a long time since we beat Cuba in the first and second legs,’’ said Yorke.

“The Gold Cup is a major tournament and that’s why we’re feeling excited. However, we can’t be distracted from the task ahead. We have to defeat St Kitts (and Nevis). We will also have some work to do when we meet Costa Rica on June 6,” Yorke added.

“We set up the team in a manner that would highlight our strengths. We were hard to beat. It’s this attributes that created the platform for the attackers to score.”

“We are still developing. Some of our players are new to the team. However, I would like to promise our fans that we will continue strengthening the team,” he added.

Cuba began struggling when the referee showed a red card to Romario Torres in the third minute.

The hosts scored the first goal when Lee produced a well-taken strike in the 22nd minute. This was an easy goal because it happened from inside the penalty area.

Lee delivered another goal in the 37th minute. This was followed by another goal in the 51st minute. It was scored by Molino. James closed the show with an 84th minute goal.
